I had a 300d myself until someone broke into my hotelroom in tunesia and I had to spend two days on a north african police station to report the theft. My insurance paid, I bought the 350d and six months later someone broke into my flat, fortunately the insurance paid again and I bought the 400d. I hope this does not happen again, as unlikely as it is (and was) I would doubt it myself, when it happens again ... but I am not superstitious :-)

I don't think that question has a solid answer, every camera has its own strengths and weaknesses, i suppose in the end it all comes down to personal choice, and the experiences of others. I myself am going with the Canon. Simply because i've heard its very very good and a few of my friends have one. And i've even looked at them and handled them myself. Just have a look around and look at reviews and such. You'll be able to choose eventually.
